Quick start

Create an account, connect Google Search Console, add a project and import your first keywords.

Serplyze tracks keyword positions with the data Google Search Console already holds for your site. Setting up takes five steps: connect Search Console, choose a property, set the market and brand, check your keyword limit, and import keywords.

You need a Google account that can see the site in Search Console. A property that is listed as unverified for your account cannot be tracked.

1. Create an account

  1. Open the sign-up page and choose Sign up with Google, or fill in Full name, Work email and Password and press Create account.
  2. If you signed up with email, open the verification email and follow its link. You cannot sign in before the address is verified.
  3. After signing in you land in the project setup. If you signed up from an invitation, you join the workspace that invited you.

2. Connect Search Console

  1. On Connect Search Console, press Connect with Google and pick the Google account that has the site.
  2. On Google's consent screen, tick the Search Console permission. Without it the setup returns with a message asking you to connect again.
  3. Back in Serplyze the step shows the connected account. Use another account connects a different one.

The access is read-only. What is requested and how to remove it is described in Google access.

3. Choose a property

Choose a property lists every Search Console property of the connected account with its type (Domain or URL prefix) and your permission level. Tick the site to track and continue. One property becomes one project.

Ticking several properties switches to the multi-site setup, which is described in Projects and workspaces.

4. Set market and brand

  • Country: leave All countries, or pick one country. With a country set, all Search Console data of the project is filtered to that country.
  • Report language: the main language of the site.
  • Brand terms: the words people use for your brand. Serplyze suggests terms from your domain. Queries containing a brand term count as branded.

Continuing from this step creates the project. All three settings can be changed later under Settings → Project.

5. Check your keyword limit

The Free plan tracks 100 keywords with no time limit. The step shows a slider with the price of larger volumes; you can stay on Free and continue. On a paid workspace the step shows how much of the workspace's keyword limit is left, because the limit is shared by all projects.

6. Import keywords

Import keywords has three sources:

  • From Search Console: your queries of the last 28 days with at least 10 impressions, most impressions first. The Queries to import slider sets how many to take from the top of that list (100 are preselected when available). Advanced changes the impressions minimum and lets you tick single queries.
  • Paste a list: one keyword per line.
  • Upload CSV: a file with a keyword column and an optional group column.

Then choose how keywords are grouped: Group by URL folder (one group per section of your site, from the pages that rank), Group by topic with AI, or no groups. Press Import and open the dashboard.

Plan

Group by topic with AI needs a plan that includes AI grouping. See pricing.

Good to know

You can track a keyword Search Console has no data for yet. It shows N/A and is checked again every day.

What the first sync does

The first sync starts right after the import and shows its progress on the rank tracker. It loads two things:

  • Site totals (clicks, impressions, CTR and position for the whole property, by device) for as far back as Search Console holds them, up to 16 months.
  • Daily data for each tracked keyword for the last 30 days.

If your plan includes more keyword history than that, the older days load afterwards in the background and a Loading older keyword history note shows until they are complete. Owners and admins get an email when the first sync is done, unless they turned it off.

Good to know

Leaving the setup part-way with Save and finish later keeps the unfinished project for one day. After that it is removed and you start again.

Where to look first

  • The rank tracker of the project: visibility, clicks, impressions, CTR and average position for the selected group, the keywords table, and the groups in the sidebar.
  • Add keywords in the rank tracker header when you want to track more. See Keywords.
  • The Alerts page and the bell in the header. Alerts start with the days that become final after your first sync; the imported history never raises any. See Alerts.
