Google access
Which Google permission Serplyze asks for, what it can and cannot do with it, and how to reconnect or revoke it.
Serplyze reads your Search Console data through a Google account you connect to the workspace. This page says exactly what is requested, what happens when the access stops working, and how to remove it.
The permission requested
Connecting Search Console asks Google for one data permission, the read-only Search Console scope:
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/webmasters.readonlyTogether with it, Google shares the email address of the account, so Serplyze can show which account is connected. Offline access is requested so that the daily sync can run while you are not signed in.
What Serplyze can and cannot do
| Serplyze reads | Serplyze cannot |
|---|---|
| The list of Search Console properties of the account and your permission level on each | Change any Search Console setting |
| Clicks, impressions, CTR and position by day, query, page, country, device and search appearance | Submit sitemaps or send indexing requests |
| Add or remove Search Console users | |
| Read Gmail, Drive, Analytics or any other Google product |
The Google token is stored encrypted and is used only by the sync service. The privacy policy lists the scopes and the fields read: privacy policy.
Who can connect an account
Workspace owners and admins connect and disconnect Google accounts. Other members see the connections in Settings → Search Console but cannot change them.
Several Google accounts
A workspace can hold more than one Google account. In Settings → Search Console, press Connect another account. One account can serve many projects, and each project uses the account that can see its property. In the project setup, Use another account does the same.
When access is lost
Access stops working when it is revoked in the Google account, when the account loses its permission on the property in Search Console, or when Google invalidates the token (for example after a password change).
- The next sync fails. A single refusal is retried quietly.
- When Google refuses again on a retry at least 30 minutes later, the account is marked Needs reconnecting and the project's sync status shows Search Console access lost.
- The rank tracker of the project shows a note that access was lost, with a Reconnect link, and owners and admins get the Sync problems email unless they turned it off.
Nothing is deleted. The stored history stays and the charts stop at the last synced day until the access is restored. Other sync errors (Google's quota, a temporary problem) are retried automatically and need no action.
Reconnect
- Open Settings → Search Console, or follow the Reconnect link in the rank tracker.
- Press the connect button and choose the Google account that has access to the property.
- Tick the Search Console permission on Google's consent screen.
After a successful connection, every project whose own connection is missing or broken and whose property the new account can read is moved to that account, and a sync starts for it. The missing days are filled in by that sync, as far as Search Console still holds them.
If Google reports that offline access was not granted, remove Serplyze under third-party apps in your Google account, then connect again.
Revoke access
There are two ways, and both stop the daily sync for the projects that use the account:
- In Serplyze: Settings → Search Console, then Disconnect next to the account. Serplyze revokes its access at Google and deletes the stored token.
- In Google: open the third-party access page of your Google account and remove Serplyze.
Stored history stays in both cases until you delete the project. Deleting a project offers to disconnect its Google account as well when no other project uses it. To remove the data itself, see Delete your data.
