Projects and workspaces
How projects map to Search Console properties, the settings of a project, adding several sites at once, and deleting a project.
A project is one Search Console property with its own keywords, groups, alerts, notes and reports. A workspace holds your projects, your team and your plan. The keyword limit belongs to the workspace and is shared by all of its projects.
Workspaces
The workspace menu in the header shows the current workspace, lets you switch to another one you belong to, and has Create workspace. A person can own one workspace on the Free plan; paid workspaces are not limited by that rule. Plans, team roles and billing are covered in Plans and billing and Team and access.
Property types
| Type | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Domain | Every subdomain and protocol of the domain. It gives the most complete numbers. |
| URL prefix | Only the URLs under that exact prefix, for example one subdomain or one folder. |
The setup marks each property as Domain or URL prefix and shows your permission level. A property with the level Unverified cannot be tracked: verify it in Search Console first. A property can be added to a workspace once; properties already added are shown as Already added.
Add a project
- On the projects dashboard, press New project.
- Go through the same steps as in the quick start: connection, property, market and brand, keyword limit, import.
Only workspace owners and admins can add projects.
Add several sites at once
Tick more than one property on Choose properties and the setup changes to the multi-site flow. You can filter the list and use Select all. Up to 50 sites can be set up in one go, within the number of projects your plan allows.
- Markets: set country and language per site, or for all sites in the All sites row.
- Keyword budget: the keywords left on your plan are split over the sites by how many Search Console queries each one has (last 28 days, at least 10 impressions). Change a number to lock it; the unlocked sites share the rest.
- Set up: each site gets its top queries as keywords, grouped by URL folder. A site with a budget of 0 is set up without keywords.
The first syncs run one after another, and the dashboard shows which sites are ready. Brand terms are taken from each domain.
Applying one project template to every new site needs the Agency add-on. See Project templates.
Project settings
Settings → Project holds the settings of the selected project. Owners and admins can change them.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Country | Filters all Search Console data of the project to one country, or All countries. A change applies from the next sync; older days already stored keep the filter they were synced with. |
| Language | The main language of the site's search queries. English and Turkish are offered. |
| Brand terms | Queries that contain a term are branded. Used by Exclude branded and the brand / non-brand numbers. |
Brand terms follow three rules:
- A term matches whole words, ignoring case and Turkish letter variants:
serpmatches the query serp app but not userpage. - Start a term with
-to exclude queries that contain it, for example-free. - Wrap a term in slashes for a regular expression, for example
/serpl(y|i)ze/.
The same page shows the Search Console property, the time of the daily sync, the recent syncs with their status, and Sync now.
Delete a project
- Open Settings → Project and press Delete project.
- Type the project's domain to confirm.
- Optionally tick the box to disconnect the Google account as well. It is offered only when no other project uses that account.
Deleting removes the project with every tracked keyword, group, note and alert, and all synced Search Console history. It cannot be undone. Your data in Google Search Console is not affected, and the keywords no longer count toward your limit.
Projects cannot be archived or paused. To stop tracking a site, delete the project, or stop tracking its keywords and keep the site totals.
Limits
- The number of projects per workspace depends on your plan. The property list in the setup says how many more sites can be added. See pricing.
- The keyword limit is counted across all projects of the workspace.
- A project is tied to its property. To track another property, add another project.
