Keyword page
What the page of a single keyword shows: KPIs, the history chart, ranking URLs, target URL, countries and notes.
Every tracked keyword has its own page with its full history. Use it to see when a position changed, which URL Google shows for the query, and whether that is the page you want.
Open a keyword
Click a keyword in the rank tracker table. A side panel opens with its KPIs and chart for the period and device selected in the rank tracker. Open full page in the panel leads to the keyword page. Alerts about a keyword link to it with Open keyword.
Under the title the page shows the keyword's group, its estimated search intent, its impressions over the last 28 days and the day tracking started. The buttons next to it are Move to group, Log action and Stop tracking.
KPI cards
| Card | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Rank | Average position at the end of the period, with the change since its start. |
| Best rank | The best position in the period. |
| Clicks | Clicks in the period, with the change against the comparison period. |
| Impressions | Impressions in the period, with the change against the comparison period. |
| CTR / expected | The keyword's CTR, and the CTR expected at its current rank. |
| Upside at #3 | Estimated extra clicks a month if the keyword ranked third. |
Upside at #3 takes the impressions of the last 28 days, scales them to a month and multiplies them by the difference between the expected CTR at position 3 and at the current rank. It is an estimate from the same expected-CTR curve as the visibility score, described in Visibility and rank spread.
Performance chart
- Device: All devices, Mobile or Desktop.
- Period: 28 days, 3 months, 12 months, or a custom range from the calendar. A range is available as far as your plan's keyword history reaches.
- Comparison: previous period, same period last year or a custom period, chosen in the calendar.
- Metrics: position, clicks, impressions, CTR and visibility, one at a time or several together.
- The newest days are drawn as provisional. KPI values stop at the last final day.
- Export offers the chart series and the ranking URL history: one row per day with that day's ranking URL.
A day without impressions has no position: the line breaks there instead of dropping. See How the data works.
Google updates, notes and actions on the chart
Google's ranking updates appear on the chart as markers with their rollout period. Notes on the keyword, the project or the workspace appear on the same axis, and the Notes section lists them. Members with edit access can add a note there. Logged actions and backlinks are marked on the chart too. See Google updates and notes and Actions and impact.
Ranking URLs
The ranking URL of a keyword on a day is the page of your site with the most clicks for that query that day (ties go to the page with more impressions).
- On the Free plan the Ranking URLs section lists the URLs that were the keyword's top page in the period, with the share of days and the dates each one held.
- On paid plans it lists every URL the keyword ranked with, with clicks, impressions, position and share of clicks.
- When pages alternated as the top page, the section says so and links to Content, where cannibalisation is listed. See Content findings.
Every ranking URL with its own metrics, and the countries of a keyword, are part of paid plans. Free shows the daily top page. See pricing.
Target URL
A target URL is the page a keyword should rank with. Setting one is optional.
- On the keyword page, find the Target URL card and press Set target.
- Enter a URL or a path on your site, or take the suggested URL: the one that ranked on the most of the last 28 final days.
- Press Save. Change and Clear edit it later.
- When the ranking URL on the latest final day is not the target, the keyword gets a mismatch badge and appears under the URL mismatch tab of the keywords table.
- URLs are compared without protocol,
www., query string and trailing slash. - For many keywords, tick them in the table and use Target URL, or use Import target URLs with lines of keyword and URL. The keywords table export has matching Keyword and Target URL columns.
- Alert rules on Ranking URL can notify you when a keyword ranks with another page. See Alerts.
Countries
On paid plans the Countries section shows clicks, impressions and position of the query per country for the period, loaded from Search Console when you open the page. It covers all countries, regardless of the project's country filter.
What the page does not show
- Search appearance is not collected for single keywords on any plan. The site-wide split is under Traffic.
- Other queries that land on the same page are not listed here. They are under Traffic, in Query × page.
- There is no results-page snapshot and no list of other sites ranking for the query: Search Console holds data for your own site only.
Search intent (informational, commercial, transactional, navigational or unclassified) is estimated from the words of the query, in English and Turkish. Search Console has no intent data.
A keyword you stopped tracking
After Stop tracking, the page says that tracking stopped and offers Resume tracking. The history is kept, and resuming brings the keyword back as long as your keyword limit has room.
